Tutor Rating System

Your tutor rating is based on your Effort, Experience & Feedback.

5. Given based on how much you write in your profile and the number of successful assignments completed with AGrader.

For Customers

1. Do you verify the tutors qualification?
2. Yes, we do. Tutors can upload their certificates and we would verify it to ensure that their qualifications are accurate. For tutors who do not wish to upload their certificates or if you wish to see it in hard copy, you can request for the tutor to bring it down on the first lesson. If you find that the tutor qualification is inaccurate, contact us immediately. We will decide whether it is an honest mistake or fraud.
3. How do I receive billing and how do I make payment?

4. Billing
   We collect half of the first month's tuition fee as commission from you. You will receive the invoice with the AGrader logo on the envelope and invoice by mail or email. Invoice has the following information on it: the invoice number, co-ordinator's name, tutor's details   payment instructions.

   Payment
   The mode of payment together with the instruction is found in the invoice. You may make payment either by mailing a cheque or bank transfer.

5. What will happen after the first lesson?
6. The tutor is subjected for acceptance or rejection after the first lesson based on his or her teaching performance. We will contact you after the first lesson to confirm if you want to accept or reject the tutor.
   
   If you do not wish to continue the tuition after the first lesson, you only pay for that lesson to the tutor. If you require more lessons to assess tutor, you may do so. You only need to pay for the number of lessons given. There is no obligation that requires you to complete a given amount of lessons.
7. How do I request for a tutor?

   For customers who has made a request before, filling in your phone number and name would suffice.

   For new customers, please the fill in your details and the address as place of the tuition.

   After making your request, you do not have to do anything. We will get in touch with you to ascertain your criterions, and follow-up with you accordingly till a suitable tutor has been matched. The date & time for the first lesson would then be arranged.

For Tutors

Account Registration and Closure

1. Registration requirements
2. There are three requirements that you need to meet:

   • Age
     You need to be at least 18 year old in order to qualify for registration.
   • Qualification
     You need to have at least an O Level or a Diploma qualification to register.
   • Residency
     You need to be a Singaporean, Permanent Resident or a Foreigner holding a student pass or work permit.
3. Registration fee
4. Registering for a basic AGrader account is free. You can view account features & benefits here.
5. How do I close my account?
6. You can close your AGrader account anytime by logging in and click on the Close Account tab. You will be prompted to confirm once. Upon confirmation, your request will be sent to us. We will then no longer display your profile nor contact you in any way (SMS, telephone or email). We will still keep your records should you need to re-activate your account in the future.
   
   If you only intend to stop receiving assignments temporarily, you should set your account status to Busy instead.
7. Why was my account closed?
8. There are a few reasons why your account may have been closed:

   • You did not enter any qualification nor upload any certificates
   • The phone number you registered with us is invalid.
   • You did not turn up for a first lesson
   • You were uncontactable for a prolonged period
   • You last login 1 year ago
   • We have receive a complaint from the customer and have begun investigation.

   If you find that your account has been closed and wish to enable it again, you may contact us and provide us your email. We will do a review and enable it again.
9. Repeated registration
10. It is very easy to identify repeated registration because we evaluate new accounts that are registered everyday. Some tutors' accounts have been closed due to cheating or poor conduct. Any attempt to sign up another tutor account with a different email will be detected by us and we will close it immediately.
11. Do not include contact details in your profile
12. We do frequent scans through our database for contact details (mobile number, address, email, website ...) that are included in the tutor profile which are viewable by the public. We will delete them on your behalf and notify you. If you include your contact details again, we will close your account.
13. I have forgotten my password or email
14. Click on forgot password on the top right of the webpage and enter your email that is registered with us. Check your email and click the link in the email. You will be redirected to a page to enter your new password.
    
    If you forgot the email that is registered with us, send an email to admin@a-grader.com indicating your name, NRIC number, birth date and mobile number. We will retrieve the registered email if sufficient information is provided.
15. I am unable to login
16. There are a few reasons your login was denied:

    • The reason tutors are unable to login is they have not activated their account through their email.
    • The email you entered was not the one you registered with us. If you have forgotten your registered email, email us at admin@a-grader.com indicating your name, NRIC number, birth date & mobile number. We will retrieve the registered email and let you know accordingly.
    • The password you entered was incorrect. If you have forgotten your password, please go to reset password.

Qualification, Certificates and Photo

1. How to scan certificates?
2. If you are using the scanning program provided by your scanner, you only need to take note that you have to scan at 100Dpi. It is important to scan at 100Dpi, higher resolutions would produce images at too large a filesize for you to upload. You may also take a photo of your certificates with your digital camera.
3. Is it necessary to upload a photo?
4. Having a friendly photo in your tutor profile close the gap between the customer and you. This increases your chance of getting shortlisted when it comes to a one to one comparison in the tutor list.
5. Cropping of tutor photo
6. Photos should meet the following condition:

   • The size should be 128px (width) by 160px (height)
   • It should be bright enough
   • We should be able to see your face clearly

   You may perform your cropping of photos using www.picnik.com.

Subjects & Areas

1. I wish to teach other subjects other than the ones you have available.
2. You may send us an email to request a new slot for that subject. We will then evaluate whether to open a slot for that subject.

SMS, Requests and Rates

1. Receiving and responding to request SMS
2. To receive request SMS from us:

   • You need to set your status to Available in your StarTutor account.
   • Have a valid mobile number (fixed line are automatically filtered out by the system).
   • Indicate appropriate areas and subjects

   When you receive the SMS for tuition request, it will contain details on the

   • Area,
   • Subject level (eg. Sec1, Jc2),
   • Subjects,
   • Frequency and duration per month (4x1.5hr/mth),
   • The rate per hour (if customer has a budget),
   • Signed off with the coordinator's name

   E.g. Hi, Sec4 PHY tuition at 2 Jurong East. 4x1.5hr/mth. Client budget: $25/hr. Pls reply with name & schedule if interested. — Simon, AGrader

   Responding to SMS:

   • Always respond with your rate and schedule
   • If you keep receiving SMS broadcasts that do not meet your criteria, you need to check your account's subjects and area. If you do not respond to many SMS, we will stop sending you SMS
   • Only give a positive response if you are sure you can meet the requirement (location, subjects and timing) The coordinator may not give you a response if your tutor profile was rejected by the customer. If your tutor profile was accepted, the coordinator will follow up with you accordingly.

   
   To stop receiving request SMS, simply set your tutor account status to Busy.
3. I have not received any update after replying to the SMS.
4. If you do not receive any reply after accepting the assignment, it is likely that another tutor has gotten the assignment or the customer has cancelled it. As we send out hundreds of SMS each time, it would be time consuming to inform all tutors the outcome. We regret any inconvenience caused & thank you for your understanding.
5. Is there any tip on increasing my chance of getting the assignment?
6. To increase your chances, it can be as simple as providing a competitive quote and flexible schedule, and having an impressive and accurate tutor profile. For the long run, you need to stay committed to the tuition assignments and maintain a good relationship with the clients. If you have doubts on your commitment, do not take up the assignment. Dropping out from assignments abruptly may lower your chance of getting future assignments. If we receive too many negative feedbacks from clients, without proper, convincing explanations from you, we are less likely to recommend you to future assignments.

Assignment and First Lesson

1. What do I prepare for the first lesson?
2. This checklist ensures that you are well-prepared for the first lesson:

   • Have the full address of the customer
   • Have found out how to get to the place. The driving direction and surrounding bus services is given in the first lesson confirmation email.
   • Store the customer's number and the coordinator's number in your phone. In case you are lost on that day, you will be able to contact us.
   • Bring your relevant certificates (original) and your NRIC. Show them to clients (parents/ students) without request. If you have some notes from your previous tuition, you can bring it along.
   • On the first lesson, you need to establish what areas the student is weak in.
   • Prepare what you would like to teach on that lesson itself.
3. Account is closed if first lesson is not attended
4. It is very important for you to attend the first lesson. Your account will be closed if you do not attend the first lesson and ignore our calls.
   Exceptions are made on a case by case basis. For example, getting involved in an accident whereby we need scanned copies of official records.

Commission, Payment and Disputes

1. What are the commission charges?
2. We charge fifty percents of the first month's tuition fee as commission from tutors. Customers do not have to pay any charges. We will collect the payment directly from our customers two weeks after the first tuition lesson starts.
   We will still charge the same amount of commission even if there is a lesson postponed. However, when there are more lessons being requested in the month by the student, we will not levy any further commission on the additional lessons.
3. Non-default payment: reverse billing and payment to agency
4. There are some occasions where the customer specifically request us to collect from the tutor. In this case, we will send the invoice to you and you will collect the full payment from the customer. The instructions on how to make payment to us can be found in the email.
   In the event where customer pays us the full month payment, we will then transfer the balance to your bank account.
5. Cheating cases
6. AGrader frowns heavily upon cheating cases. If found out, the tutor account will be closed permanently and a police report may be made.
7. Disputes on service rendered
8. A customer may dispute that a tutor has rendered poor service and refused payment. However, if the tutor is able to provide strong evidence in writing that lesson was given properly, we will proceed with billing.
   If a customer still refuses to pay, AGrader will proceed with legal action via Small Claims Tribunal depending on the amount involved.
   AGrader has successfully reclaimed payment for tutors from non-paying customers.
